In 2008 while the theatre was closed, the Bristol Old Vic Theatre Club continued its activities and organised over 20 events; some of the highlights were:
Coffee mornings with guest speakers
- Sir Jonathan Miller, Director of Hamlet at Shakespeare at the Tobacco Factory and many other plays and opera internationally
- Catherine Johnson, author of Mamma Mia! and much else
- Peter Lord, Director of Aardman Animations
- Sue Wilson, Artistic Director, Bristol Old Vic Theatre School
- ACH Smith, playwright, author of Up the Feeder, down the Mouth and back again
- Kate McNab, Kit Morgan and others in the Ministry of Entertainment presenting their work in progress
- George Ferguson, former president of Royal Institute of British Architects, and driving force behind the development of the Tobacco Factory and many other innovative multi-use sites
- Jamie Ballard, actor, former student of BOV Theatre School who played Hamlet at the Tobacco Factory
